by admin on May.16, 2009, under General
Hello everyone,
If you have submitted an application, or are interested in becoming an MISA officer next semester, there will be a meeting at 7:30pm on Thursday May 21st at the BBC Board Room (Lower Level). MISA advisers Professor Burkhard and Aggarwal will be present. This is the perfect opportunity for you to state why you think you should be an officer.

Thank you everyone

Hello everyone,
MISA officers and I would like to thank everyone who attended Wednesday’s Bowling Event. The turn out was great, and it looked like everyone had a good time. We hope that the events this semester were fun for those of you who attended and has given you more incentive to re-join next semester. As my previous post stated, if you’re interested in joining the officer board, please print out the application and hand it to an officer or adviser. We will make sure to take all applicants into consideration.
Finally, it’s of sad news that Kaity, Aura, Ali, David Lee and myself will not be returning to MISA next semester, as we are all graduating. We all believe that MISA is important for all students in the SJSU MIS program to join, and we are glad to have met all of you during the course of our time in MISA. With returning members next semester and good word-of-mouth spreading about the organization, the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters were only the beginning of great things to come in the near future.
So from all of us MISA officers, we wish everyone one of you good luck on finals, and have a wonderful summer.
Sincerely,
William Lumabas

MIS Honors Application Deadline: April 17th
by admin on Apr.04, 2009, under General, Reminder
Have you applied for the MIS Honors Program yet?
The MIS Honors Practicum is a one year course that replaces both 119a and an MIS elective. The class is extremely different from a normal MIS class, as the class is small and the projects have a lot of more depth than a regular one semester course project. There are no exams for this class. Also, the practicum allows a great opportunity for one to network with fellow students, alumni, and employers.
Being in the practicum myself, I have learned a lot about IT project management. The class is a very unique experience that can’t be found in any other class. Dr. Sawyer cares about her students and wants all of them to succeed in not only their projects, but in life after the class as well. I highly encourage all of you to apply to the program, as you will benefit from it now, and in the future.

UPDATE: SJSU Alumni GOLD event and State of the Economy Event
by admin on Apr.03, 2009, under General
Hi everyone,
We have just received an invitation by Cecilia Almeda from the SJSU Alumni Association about an upcoming event of theirs. The event they are hosting is called “How To Market Yourself in a Tough Economy” and it will be held on April 21 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Engineering Building Rm. 189.
With today’s economic crisis and competitive job market, we understand how difficult it is for students during these times. We have invited two guests, Directors of Global Compensation and Recruitment from VeriSign, who will be sharing with students the best ways to market themselves so they are set apart from other applicants. The event is FREE and open to everyone!
For those interested, please have them RSVP at http://www.sjsualumni.com/ under the GOLD Event’s “Free April Seminar.” If there are any questions, please direct them to me through e-mail or at 408-924-6517.
-Cecilia Almeda
UPDATE:
There is a guest speaker event in collaboration with SAM.
The Purpose: To describe to students how companies are doing in the current economy and how they foresee the future and what they feel is best for the students to protect themselves for the current job market.
Date: Wednesdsay April 15th at 6:00pm
Room: BBC 120
Speakers: Kenny from Bank of America, Mr. Doug Evans from the Career Center
I hope you considering to attending both, if not, one of these events if you are interested.
